In this 6th instalment of The Good Soldier Schweik, the protagonist leaves for Kiralihyda in Hungary with Lieutenant Lukas and 91st Regiment after being put under arrest for three days for wandering across Southern Bohemia. At Kiralihyda, he becomes the bearer of Lukas's love letters and meets apper Vodicka. The boon companions provoke a brawl in the family of the lady to whom Lukas's love letter is addressed and, thereafter, the lieutenant is sent to the Russian front together with Schweik.
